About Us

After eight years working as an electrologist with EBJ Skin Care and with the encouragement of my dear friend and mentor Jean Bartini I (Deborah Lee Brown, A.K.A. Deb) opened Hair Free LLC. Electrolysis.

Having come to electrolysis late in life with a multifaceted background I present a different prospective than many of my colleagues. A lifetime of experience has led me to the conclusion that it’s all about people. The people we touch bring meaning to our lives.  As a professional electrologist I have found a rewarding way to serve people. Through good fortune and many hundreds of hours of experience, I am able to produce successful outcomes, bringing relief and joy to so many. I approach electrolysis as a calling.  I love the work and the clients I serve.

Hair Free Electrolysis is a state-of-the-art facility housed within the Summit Salon Suites in Oceanside, New York, a bright modern complex of individually owned and operated beauty and health care facilities. Ample parking is always available.

What Can Electrolysis Do For You

For Woman:

Everyone’s hair grows differently, depending on age, weight, metabolism, hormones, ethnicity, medications, pregnancy, and other factors. Women are, generally speaking, self-conscious and disturbed, emotionally as well as physically, by unwanted hair. For women puberty, pregnancy and menopause play important parts in determining hair growth. Chemical depilatories contain irritating chemicals and can be time-consuming and messy. Bleaches contain harsh chemicals, do little to disguise dark hair and may discolor skin. Waxing, tweezing and threading are temporary fixes which only make matters worse. Pulling hairs promotes increased hair growth hairs become darker and more coarse. Ingrown hairs are an inevitable byproduct of tweezing, waxing and threading. The FDA and the American Medical Association recognize only Electrolysis as a  permanent method of hair removal.

For Men:

For many men, temporary hair removal regimens are essential to attaining a well trimmed look. However, shaving, tweezing, threading etc. are only temporary and they do not work long term. Electrolysis has become the only permanent hair solution. It gives you that smooth, sleek sculptured look in every area of the body and every type of skin. Some common areas of treatment are eyebrows, especially a unibrow, beard sculpting, ear hair, back and shoulders etc. Men are troubled by ingrown hair too, and only electrolysis can permanently and safely deal with this problem. The length of a treatment, and the number of treatments to complete the process, will depend on the amount of hair to be removed and other factors discussed during your consultation/evaluation. It is important to know that consistent clearing of any area, will achieve permanence sooner than having sporadic treatments.

For Transgender Clients

No one transitions because they want to. People transition because they have to.

M-to-F transition requires two electrolysis procedures: remove of facial hair and remove prior to gender correction surgery. Hormones should eliminate most body hair but may, in some cases, have to be augmented by laser treatment.

It is most important that the transgender client receive the most competent care that an electrologist could possibly provide. It is equally vital that the client be understood, respected and treated as their true selves. I am proud to have played a small part in assisting so many on their journey of self-discovery.

Competent treatment of the transgender client is a specialty. I am extremely gratified that I continue to receive the recommendations of the Trans Community, former clients, therapists and surgeons.

Electrolysis Q&A
Q & A

Is electrolysis permanent?

Yes. Electrolysis stands alone as the only permanent method of hair removal.

No other hair-removal method can claim the universal acceptability and success offered by electrolysis treatments. Electrolysis safely and permanently removes all types of hair from all skin tones.

Electrolysis permanently destroys the growth cells of the hair follicle, preventing treated hairs from ever growing back. Treatment may be applied to all facial and body parts this includes the eyebrows, chin, upper and lower lip, jaw line, sides of the face, breast and underarm, the abdomen, bikini line, fingers and toes, the legs, back and groin area.

Other methods of hair removal, with the exception of laser, are quick fixes; immediate but temporary. Such methods as tweezing, threading and waxing increase future growth and promote ingrown hairs. Depilatories are harsh chemicals which can permanently damage the skin. Laser treatments can be used as a method to reduce hair growth but is not fully effective in eliminating hair permanently and only will work on dark hair.

See the FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) report, Removing Hair Safely.

I heard electrolysis was painful. Is that true?

Much of what you hear about the pain associated with electrolysis is based on old news. Electrolysis has been around for over a hundred years. It has come a long way since then. Modern day advances in digital electronics and precision crafting have made the process relatively pain free.

Today’s electrologists can choose between three different methods of treatment: thermolysis, galvanic or blend. There are now a variety of probes available to choose from. There are insulated and non-insulated probes, one-piece and two-piece probes, stainless steel, and gold-plated; it is of the utmost importance that the gauge of the probe be carefully selected.

In order that my clients receive the most effective treatment possible while experience the least amount of discomfort an individualized treatment plan will be developed to meet your specific needs. I will determine in consultation with you the best option for your skin type, your hair type and your growth pattern in order that you receive a comfortable, quality treatments.

What does electrolysis feel like?

A slight sting but, everybody is different and individual tolerance varies greatly. A variety of products are now available which will provide a pain-free experience for all, even for those with a very low pain threshold. Many a client has fallen asleep during a treatment.

How many treatments are required?

The number of treatments necessary varies with each individual. Treatment sessions can range from 15 minutes to more than an hour depending on the area being treated, the type and texture of the hair being treated, skin type, reaction to treatment and an individual client’s wants and needs.

Factors such as hair growth cycles, the quantity and structure of hair presented, previous use of temporary hair removal methods, heredity, hormone function, certain medications and stress influence the treatment program for each individual. It is important to follow the recommended treatment plan to achieve optimum results. Consistency counts.

Can I be hair free in one treatment?

Hair grows in cycles. The hair which is remove today is not the hair you may see in a few days; those hairs have been growing under your skin. A hair which is treated today, if it were to reappear would not do so for at least 4 to 6 weeks after it was initially treated and if it were to reappear it would be a mere shadow of its self and easily disposed of.

Deep, coarse hairs cannot always be eliminated with one treatment.

Do you treat Trans Individuals?

Most assuredly. I am very proud to have played a part, small though it may have been, in assisting so many on the journey in becoming their true selves. I am so gratified that I continue to receive the recommendations of the Trans Community, former clients, therapists and surgeons.

Can I get a consultation?

Yes! I would encourage anyone thinking of having hair removal therapy to arrange for a free consultation. Check it out. Check me out. See how electrolysis feels. There is absolutely no obligation.
